Yeast Infection Symptoms: Do You Show Any of
These Signs?
There's
no doubt you've probably heard of people suffering with a yeast
infection. You hear
them moan and groan about how uncomfortable they are. If you've never
experienced a yeast
infection before, you may wonder what all the fuss is about. What
exactly are yeast infection
symptoms, you may wonder. Depending on where your yeast infection is
located, the symptoms
may vary slightly. However, most yeast infections are characterized by
itching, burning and
sometimes a whitish discharge.
The form of yeast infection most people are familiar with is the
vaginal yeast infection. Most
women will suffer at least one vaginal yeast infection during their
lifetime. While each individual
woman may suffer a unique group of symptoms with her yeast infection,
there are several general
symptoms that characterize a yeast infection. For instance, yeast
infection symptoms include
itching or burning in the vulva and exterior genital areas. Vaginal
itching or pain during
intercourse is also associated with a yeast infection. Some women will
also feel a burning during
urination. Others will have a thick whitish or grayish discharge and
smell a fishy or yeast bread
odor.
Although not as common, men can also suffer yeast infections. It is
more common for men who
are uncircumcised to contract a yeast infection because the yeast can
hide and multiply in the
folds of the foreskin. Men suffering from a yeast infection will
generally have a burning
sensation when they urinate. They may also have a rash either along the
shaft or at the tip of the
penis. The rash will generally consist of patchy red sores. A man's
yeast infection symptoms can
also include a penis that is itchy or sore to the touch.
A final form of yeast infection can start in the mouth. This type of
yeast infection is more
commonly known as thrush and is common in babies and those with
immunosuppressive
diseases. Oral thrush is characterized by a burning sensation in the
mouth. The patient will
probably also have white or cream colored patches in the mouth, usually
on the tongue or insides
of the cheeks. The patches will be sore and may bleed if scratched or
rubbed. Oral yeast
infection symptoms may also spread to the gums or throat. If
you suspect you have an oral yeast
infection, it is best to see your doctor as there are few treatments
available over-the-counter for
this condition.
Where ever it strikes, yeast infection symptoms will generally
be the same. The overgrowth of
yeast will cause itching, burning and possibly a whitish discharge. The
most common forms of
yeast infections occur in the mouth or the genital region. If you
suspect you have contracted one
of these infections, they are relatively easy to clear up. If it is
your first experience with a yeast
infection, see your doctor for a diagnosis. He can prescribe a medicine
that will quickly clear
your yeast infection symptoms and leave you feeling more like yourself.
